LIT ADVENTURE – PROGRAM GOALS
This new and improved LIT Adventure Program is designed to enhance the ADV experience by combining the best elements of community, leadership, and adventure. With exclusive community time, leadership development, and priority activity sign-ups, this program ensures that every moment is filled with the excitement that makes ADV special. Participants in the LIT Adventure Program not only enjoy all the fun but also develop essential leadership skills through the Cosby Leadership Experience.
This program includes specialized activities, opportunities to earn valuable community service hours, and unique adventures specialized to just the LIT Adventure Campers. The LIT Adventure Program goes beyond a typical camp session – it’s a transformative experience that prepares young leaders for their future adventures.
LIT ADVENTURE Program Description
Groups A-D are identical programs offered on different dates. The Cosby Leadership Experience activities will change week by week, ensuring that LIT Adventure Campers can pick their preferred dates. This is a leadership development program for returning and new campers.
This one-week LIT Adventure Program offers a unique blend of community, leadership, and excitement tailored for an unforgettable experience at ADV. Participants can fully immerse themselves in the community vibes – enjoying meals with peers, hanging out during sign-ups, and winding down in the evenings. With activity priority, LIT Adventure Campers are first to choose their preferred adventures, ensuring they never miss out. Convenient bus rides keep them close to the action, while the Cosby Leadership Experience fosters essential leadership skills through selective activities, service projects, and team-building exercises.
Beyond the thrill, participants earn valuable community service hours and letters of recommendation, engage in specialized leadership-focused activities, and embark on unique adventures like canoe lunches and cooking contests. The LIT Adventure Program is designed to develop skills that last a lifetime, all while having the time of their lives at ADV.
LIT ADVENTURE REGISTRATION PROCESS
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
To ensure your teen is considered for the LIT Adventure Program, please follow these steps:
- Register for Camp: The family must first register the teen for camp by selecting the preferred program dates under the “LIT Adventure Program” option.
- Post Registration Email: Shortly after the teen is in enrolled status, both the camper and family will receive an email from the Associate Director with a link to a Google Form.
- Camper Complete the Google Form: The Google Form must be filled out by the CAMPER and submitted to the Associate Director. This step is required to be considered for the program.
- Form Review: After the Google Form is completed, it will be reviewed by the Associate Director.
- Further Details: The LIT Adventurer and their family will be notified by email with further details about the program once the form has been reviewed.
Teen Responsibilities
Teens interested in the LIT Adventure Program should follow these steps:
- Discuss with Parents: Talk with your parent about the LIT Adventure Program and ask them to register you for it.
- Post Registration Email: After registration, both you and your parent will receive an email with a link to a Google Form for the teen to complete.
- Complete the Google Form: It is the LIT Adventure’s responsibility to fill out and submit the Google Form to be considered for the program.
Timeline
October 12th at 9AM CST – Summer Registration Opens
Once registered, LIT Adventure registrants and family will receive the Google Form by email.

Counselor In Training (CIT)
Ages – Must be 16 By May 20 of Current Season

CIT – PROGRAM GOALS
The CIT program is advanced training and real-life practice of leading others, being a role model and work experience. They will learn about leadership and put it into practice. They will debrief their performance and have professional evaluations to encourage an even high quality of leadership. CITs will learn from other professionals and discuss various leadership philosophies. CITs leave the program with professional references, a stronger sense of independence, leadership skills, life skills and clarification on their next steps in education and their career pathway. CITs who successfully complete the program will receive a letter of recommendation, a certificate of service hours and a CIT Program Certificate of completion.
CIT Program Description
Group A and B are identical programs offered on different dates. Families can pick their preferred date. This is a teen leadership development program for returning and new campers.
The two-week program focuses on leadership development, communication skills, team-building, professional childcare, goal setting, becoming a positive role model, taking on responsibility for others and having fun. This program is advanced training for teen campers who are focused on careers in leadership, working with children and becoming a camp counselor. CITs will learn from the Cosby Leadership staff and guest speakers. Each participant will be encouraged to teach an activity lesson, lead a cabin devotion, enjoy a full immersion camp counselor experience, assist a camper with problem-solving and participate on stage in front of the whole camp for a campfire. All CITs will receive an evaluation by the CIT Directors, recommendations for the continuation of each participant’s professional development and a CIT Program Certificate of Completion that includes service hours completed.
CIT SELECTION PROCESS
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
To be considered for the CIT Program, follow these steps:
- Parent Registration: The parent must first register the teen for camp by selecting the preferred program dates under “Counselor in Training.”
- Applied Status: Upon registration, the CIT will go directly to applied status in CampInTouch. Note that the deposit will not process, and the registrant will not be enrolled at this stage.
- Receive Application Packet: CIT application packets will be sent to the emails of both the parent and the applicant by the Associate Director.
- Complete and Submit Forms: The CIT (not the parent) is responsible for completing all necessary forms/reference letters and emailing them back to the Associate Director at klowke@ymcabham.org.
- Interview Scheduling: Once all forms are received, the Associate Director will reach out to schedule an interview with the CIT. These interviews last about 15 minutes. *The application and both reference letters must be submitted before scheduling interviews.
- Acceptance: After the interview, the CIT and family will be notified by email on their acceptance status. Upon accepted, the CIT status will change to enrolled, the deposit will be processed, and the CIT’s spot in the program will be secured.
If the teen is not accepted into the program, both the parent and CIT will be notified, and no charges will be made to the parent’s account.
Teen Responsibilities
Teens interested in the CIT Program should follow these steps:
- Discuss with Parents: Have a conversation with your parent about the CIT Program and ask them to register you for it.
- Receive Registration Email: Once the CIT is in ‘applied’ status after registration, you and your parent will receive an email with details about your application and reference letters.
- Submit Application and References: You must submit an application along with two professional references from a teacher, pastor, volunteer group leader, coach, or similar figure. Submit the forms to Kelsey at klowke@ymcabham.org
- Schedule a Phone Interview: Once you submit your application and reference letters, the Associate Director will arrange a phone interview with you as part of the application process.
- Notification of Status: Both you and your parent will be notified of your status in the program by email. Keep in mind that acceptance into the CIT Program is not guaranteed.
If the teen is not accepted into the program, both the parent and CIT will be notified, and no charges will be made to the parent’s account.
